About Cleaning Dryer Vents

Dryer

Obstructed dryer vents are dangerous as they can cause fires. Obstruction of the vents is brought about by a buildup of lint which usually impairs proper functioning of the dryer. The good thing is that it’s very easy to clean the dryer by following these steps:

The first thing you need to do is to pull the dryer away from the wall and disconnect the flexible dryer duct from the dryer. To do this you need to use a screwdriver. All you need to do is to turn the screw counterclockwise in order to loosen the clamp and free the flexible duct dryer vent.

You should then insert the crevice attachment on the vacuum cleaner into one end of the hose and vacuum as much lint as you are able to reach. Once one end is clean you should repeat the same process on the other end of the vent hose.

To remove loose lint you should vacuum the lent opening on the back of the dryer. In some cases you may be required to use your fingers to pick some of it out.

You should remove the grate on the dryer vent using a screwdriver and wipe off all lint from it. You should vacuum any lint you can reach in this part of the venting system. Again here you should note that you may be required to use your fingers to loosen and remove all lint. Once all the lint has been removed, you should replace the grate.

After doing this you should reattach the flexible vent hose to the dryer and wall vent using the clamps and a screwdriver.

How to reduce the amount of lint that gets in the dryer

The first thing you need to do is to remove dryer lint from the trap after each use. You should then thoroughly clean any debris under the trap. You should also remove any debris under and behind your dryer after every three to six months.

If your dryer duct hose is made from plastic or flimsy foil material, you should consider replacing it. The reason why you should do it is because the materials tends to damage very easily and tends to prohibit proper airflow which can result to overheating of the appliance.

To avoid replacing the duct hose every now and then you should consider buying a duct made from a stronger material such as metal.

Conclusion

This is what you need to know about dryer vent cleaning. If you don’t have time or the right materials, you should consider hiring a professional to help you out in the cleaning.
